SAN Storage Area Network Specifications and NAS Data Storage and BackupSAN Specifications:
SAN storage is purchased in increments of 1GB. Each server connects to its dedicated space. For example: If a customer orders 300GB of SAN space, they can connect 1 server to the entire 300GB. Customer's server needs a second NIC card to access the SAN. The "ISCSI" initiator software is loaded on their server. Once connected to the SAN the customers server will see this space as an additional hard drive attached to their server. The customer can also run backups to the SAN. Snap Shots DataPoint can provide "Snap Shots" of the data that is backed up on the SAN. These snapshots can act like backups for the data on the SAN, and can be run automatically on a schedule. NAS - Data StorageThe NAS (Network Attached Storage) solution provides a customer with a place for data storage. The customer keeps their local copy of the data and then sends a back up copy to the NAS. |
